Bug Highlights

This year instead of swatting, running from, or jumping on a chair we decided to document some of the fantastic bugs we encountered.

This is an Asian Long-Horned Beetle. Hopefully they haven’t already killed all the trees in North America.

This guy is more leaf than bug.

This is a cicada that couldn’t seem to find its way off of our deck after it flew in to me a half dozen times.

Movie Pitch

This past week the topic in our speaking class was Movies.  This topic can be rather difficult  for us to navigate.  First of all, most students haven’t seen many movies.  Second, many of the movies they have seen are from Korea, China, and Vietnam.  Third, the majority of the movies they have seen are not originally in Vietnamese, which rules out many dialogue heavy films.  The most popular movies tend to be Titanic, Mr. Bean, Korean romances, and some type of animated film.

One activity we did was to create a movie idea and then present a 2 minute pitch for the movie as if an investor was sitting in the room.  After hearing over 20 pitches here’s some of the highlights.

-most film titles involved the word LOVE, like Bus Love, First Love, Accident Love

-most films involved a couple in love that are dealing with family that don’t approve of their relationship.

-most films involved a couple that must overcome differences in social class

-most films involved a couple in high school or University

-one film involved a man having a baby

-one film involved a Romeo and Juliet story but the couple turn in to butterflies

-multiple films involved romance between actual students in the class that others suspected were in a relationship
